Meet Our Team

David Wilkins, V.M.D.

Medical Director

Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, I grew up watching my father practice veterinary medicine. I earned my undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the Agriculture College of the University of Delaware. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, I joined my father, Dr. John L. Wilkins, at Circle Veterinary Clinic. It has been a pleasure and privilege serving the needs of our clients' pets and getting to know them and their families over my years of practice here in Wilmington. I enjoy providing thorough physical examinations as the foundation for preventative medicine, helping pets with their dental problems, and managing pets as they age. I reside in the city of Wilmington with my wife. Our three sons are grown and have left home, so our energetic little rescue Dachshund Sabre enjoys being an only child and keeping us company. We still miss our Maltese Beau, our cat Sassy, and our collie mix Maggie. I enjoy bicycling and fly fishing when I have spare time.

Gretchen Fanconi-Shifflett, D.V.M.

Associate Veterinarian

I grew up in rural Montgomery County, Maryland. We always had a menagerie of pets, including mice, dogs, cats, and goats. I spent every summer growing up in California on my grandmother's dairy farm. There, I raised and showed beef cattle. My love of animals grew from these childhood experiences. I graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. My husband Ed and I moved to the area nearly ten years ago. After working as a small animal veterinarian in Pennsylvania for nine years, I became part of the Circle Veterinary family in March 2015. Ed and I have two human children, Ella, 10, and Gavin, 6. Hugo is my little old man. I got him the day before I arrived in Blacksburg, Virginia for veterinary school orientation. His favorite activities are sleeping, eating, and purring. Pasy is a shy and handsome man. He likes to play catch with stuffed mice and get his cuddles from the kids at bedtime. Gable is a very high-energy pointer cross. He has been my running partner since we rescued him four years ago. My areas of interest include surgery, dentistry, endocrinology, and oncology.

Amanda Weiss, V.M.D.

Associate Veterinarian

I grew up in a home in the Philadelphia suburbs that was always full of pets. Throughout the years, we had dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, turtles, lizards, Guinea pigs, mice and hamsters. I don’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a veterinarian and always dreamed about going to the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. This dream became a reality, and I graduated in 2005 and then spent the following year completing a rotating small animal internship at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. I returned to the area and am currently living in southern PA with my husband, Charles, and two toddlers - William (age 4) and Amelia (age 2.5). We also share our home with a geriatric cat named Chester the Cheetah, who has been with me since veterinary school. I love being a veterinarian and am very passionate about the human-animal bond and the importance of pets as companions in our lives. I am excited to be part of a team that helps promote that bond by providing excellent veterinary care.

Lauren Jones, V.M.D.

Associate Veterinarian

After growing up in central Pennsylvania, I attended Lebanon Valley College, where I received my B.S. in biology. I went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2011. Currently, I live in the Philadelphia suburbs with my husband, our three young children and two mixed breed dogs. Pets have always had a special place in my life, and I enjoy helping pet owners keep their furry friends happy and healthy.

Yolanda Lyons

Hospital Manager

Yolanda is originally from Philadelphia, PA, but her family moved to Bear, DE when she was 11 years old. She earned my B.S. (Summa Cum Laude) in Pre-Veterinary Science from Delaware State University in 2004. The day after graduating, she studied abroad in Namibia, where she learned the impact that agriculture had on their socio-economic infrastructure (14 years post colonial independence). That summer, she also attended an internship at Virginia Tech at the school of Veterinary Medicine, where she researched the effects of Vitamin E supplementation to parenteral admixtures.

She has been a Veterinary Technician since 2004. Prior to becoming a technician, she also interned at the Philadelphia Zoo, where she worked with many species, both small, large and exotic (one of her favorites were the Prehensile tailed Porcupines). She also earned my certification in phlebotomy from the Dawn Career Institute in 2012. In March 2013, she joined Circle Veterinary Clinic, as a Veterinary Technician.

Her passions include, but are not limited to dentistry, anesthetics, radiography, and nutrition. She loves helping others, and excel at multi-tasking. In February 2022, she was given the honor of leading our team as Hospital Manager. Her absolute favorite dog breed is the Great Dane (she has a Dane tattoo on her right arm), so of course, she had to rescue one! She has a sweet and lovable, harlequin, named Ripley! She adores cats as well, and is known for taming the meanest kitties (she's been called the Cat Whisperer by some)! She also has a cool, tuxedo, kitty named Blaze. Let's not forget her beautiful daughter, Madison, and my partner in crime, Robb. During her downtime, she likes to read, draw, write, listen to music and on nice days, take walks with her family.

Yolanda has loved being part of Circle for all of these years. Circle feels like one big family, and it's nice to have a clientele that are like family as well. We strive to do our best to provide them with great customer service and our patients with quality care!
